Mauricio Nicolas Vergara

CENDARI Visiting Research Fellow

Mauricio completed a BA and MSc in natural sciences at the University of Padua. Since his MSc thesis, he has tried to combine earth sciences with his interest in history, particularly in the field of military studies. His PhD in geography at the University of Padua concerned the influence of physic geography on the eastern Tyrol front during the First World War. In order to characterize the influence that physic geography had on military events, among  different methods, empirical and quantitative studies were developed in his PhD thesis. Mauricio is a CENDARI fellow at the GCDH, and his project focuses on the study, with the aid of geographic information systems, of those factors considered by the Austro-Hungarian commanders for the location of the defence line in Tyrol.
